About to Submit an ED Application? Here's what to look out for...

⏳ As the deadlines for early admissions applications are fast approaching, we’ve curated a checklist of things to look over before you finally send in your application! 🧐

Sections 1 & 2

🖼️ These two sections consist of your background information, make sure you double-check these areas:

  • Ensure you correctly report your parents' marital status and college education level! This is important for scholarships

  • Check your eligibility for a fee waiver, email admissions if you aren’t sure

  • Check your contact info so the university can reach out to you

  • If your parents are alumni, be sure to mention it

WHY IT MATTERS:

Schools make strategic decisions to ensure overall class diversity. Not accurately representing your information can result in you getting passed up for an application with more clarity.

Education Section

🤓 GPA, High School, & Awards... All of that fun stuff

  • Make sure your GPA matches the one on your transcript. It’s easy for admissions to find out if you're inflating your GPA on purpose

  • Don’t waste the awards section with small things, try to diversify activities and choose high-recognition awards

  • Make sure you select ‘No Rank’ instead of leaving the rank section blank if your school doesn’t rank students

WHY IT MATTERS:

Misrepresenting an award, GPA, or rank that can easily be verified is the best way to get yourself rejected. Once one thing is slightly off in your application, the admissions officers won’t believe anything else (even if it is true).

Testing Section

📝 Self-reported test scores (SAT/ACT/AP)

  • Check if your school is test optional and decide if you still want to submit your test scores. If you are having trouble deciding whether or not you should submit your test scores, check out our guide here

  • Send and pay for official SAT/ACT score reports

  • Self-report English proficiency scores if you’re an international student!

  • Don’t report low AP scores

WHY IT MATTERS:

Test scores remain one of the most important criteria for admissions. Use them to your advantage and submit those high scores!

Activities Section

👔 Extracurricular activities & leadership positions

  • Quality over quantity! choose activities that show long-term commitment instead of a laundry list of minor involvements

  • Don’t repeat words from the description box into the activity box, word count is very limited

  • Add up the activity hours and make sure they make sense! Don’t inflate your hours

WHY IT MATTERS:

For selective schools, this is the most important section. Activities are the clearest way to understand who a student is—after all, you are what you do in your free time. Be careful not to overexaggerate your activities. Once you lose your credibility in this section, it’s over for you.
